This Post will show you How to install Ubuntu on windows with VirtualBox .To install Ubuntu Linux on a Windows computer, you’ll need to create an installation key by downloading the Ubuntu installation file, Now there are two way you can install ubuntu.

  • Download the ubuntu ISO file and burning it to a USB drive, after which point you can reboot your computer into the BIOS and select the USB drive to boot from it. You’ll then follow the Ubuntu installation instructions.
  • Download the VirtualBox and install on your system and build virtual machine.

What is ubuntu Linux ?.

Ubuntu ia s Linux distribution based on Debian mostly composed of free and open-source software. Ubuntu is officially released in three editions: Desktop, Server, and Core for Internet of things device and robots. All the editions can run on the computer alone, or in a virtual machine.

Ubuntu is released every six months, with long-term support releases every two years., the most recent long-term support release in 20.04, which is supported until 2025 under public support and until 2030 as a paid option. The latest standard release in 20.10, which is supported for nine months,
Ubuntu is developed by Canonical, and a community of other developers, under a meritocratic governance model. Canonical provides security updates and support for each Ubuntu release, starting from the release date and until the release reaches its designated end-of-life date.

Linux installation steps

  • Start VirtualBox and click New button to create virtual machine (VM). Input your vm name and select appropriate type and version and click Next.

  • Select the memory size to new virtual machine (vm) as per below screenshot and click Next

  • Now we are creating new virtual machine(vm) so just select option “Create a virtual hard drive now” and click Create button.

  • Select hard disk file type to be created. Default VDI format is selected. You may select other formats also If you want to use hard drive with other virtualization software’s.

  • Select type of disk allocation. We suggest to use option “Dynamically allocated”. Using this option hard drive grows on system as it fills only.

  • Select  location of files to be created in system and size of hard drive for vm. Now click “Create” button

You have created an Ubuntu virtual machine without operating system. Now We will install Ubuntu operating system on this virtual machine.
  • Select your created VM and right click on vm. Go to settings and select your IOS image file, which one you downloaded . Click on optical Drive and select ISO as per showing below screencast. Click ok.

  • Now Open VirtualBox and select created vm. Click on Start button as per showing below screencast

Once booting the vm, You will see screen like below. Here you select your language and install Ubuntu.

In this windows if you want install third party software then select  third party check box or else continue.

  • Installation type: Select LVM with new Ubuntu installation and click on Install Now button.

  • Select the location of server resides to properly setting system date time and click on Continue button.

  • Select the keyboard language as per your understanding and click on Continue button.

  • Enter your Name, username and password to configure your system account and click on Continue button.

  • Now you can see file are started copying.

  • your vm is ready to reboot.
